Middle school sports, updated Sept.30

Eighth grade volleyball- The eighth grade volleyball team played Roland-Story in Roland Sept. 29. The girls won two and lost six games.

Three squads played with the following scores: A, 16-21, 21-17, 10-21; B, 17-21, 16-21, 15-21; and C, 10-21, 21-17.

Morrgan Zmolek served at 100 percent at 6/6. Gina Brown served at 94 percent, 31/33 with 12 aces, Birttany Daniel served at 92 percent, 12/13 with four aces, and Kylie Angell served at 90 percent, 18/20, with five aces. Overall, the girls served at 78 percent with 100/128 and 37 aces.

Cross-country- The middle school cross-country teams ran at the Norseman invitational in Story City Sept. 25. The girls placed sixth of 10 teams and the boys placed 11th of 11 teams.

Bailey Cunningham led the girls with a sixth place finish in 13:46. Melanie Doran was 24th in 14:47, Tieryn Tucker was 41st in 15:47, Megan Doran was 45th in 16:01, and Ashlee Harmeyer was 52nd in 16:14.

Spencer Whipple was first of the Ram boys with a time of 13:55. Brian Hardaway was 43rd in 14:09 and Cael Fisher was 73rd in 15:17. Twelve Greene County girls and six Greene County boys ran.

Eighth grade volleyball- The eighth grade volleyball team hosted Nevada on Sept. 25 in the Greene County middle school gym. The girls won no games, but according to coach Teresa Green, the Rams are becoming more competitive with each game.

Three squads played with the following scores: A, 11-21, 15-21, 19-21; B, 17-21, 19-21, 15-21; and C, 10-21, 12-15.

Gina Brown was 16/17 serving (94 percent) with two aces. Morrgan Zmolek was 2/2 serving. Claire Teusch served at 15/18 (83 percent) with five aces, and Brittany Daniel served at 8/10 (80 percent) with two aces.

Eighth grade volleyball- The eighth grade volleyball team hosted Gilbert at the Greene County Community Center Monday, Sept. 22. The girls won three of eight games. As a team, serving improved to 73 percent.

Three squads played with the following results: A, 3-21, 11-21, 7-21; B, 16-21, 11-21, 21-19; and C, 23-21, 21-10.

Gina Brown served at 100 percent with one ace; Lacey Ganoe served at 80 percent, Kylie Angell served at 76 percent with nine aces, and Serenity Blair served at 75 percent.

Cross-county- The Greene County middle school team ran at the Panorama Invitational near Panora Sept. 18. The girls placed third of seven teams and the boys placed fourth of six teams.

Seventh grader Bailey Cunningham finished sixth of the 70 girls running with a time of 15:19. Eighth grader Melanie Doran was 13th at 16:13. Twelve girls ran for the Rams.

Seventh grader Spencer Whipple was the first Ram boy to cross the finish line with a time of 15:10, good for 21st place of the 77 total runners. Seventh grader Brian Hardaway was 24th in 15:24 and seventh grader Cael Fisher was 30th in 15:57. Six Ram boys competed.

Eighth grade volleyball- The eighth grade volleyball team won its first game of the season when it hosted Ogden Sept. 18. Serving in that game was 90 percent. Top servers for the day were Morrgan Zmolek and Tosha Harvey at 100 percent. Kara Reed served at 89 percent with six aces and Gina Brown served at 80 percent with one ace.

Two squads played with scores as follows: A, 21-15, 7-21, 17-21; and B, 16-21, 9-12, 8-21.

Eighth grade volleyball- The eighth grade volleyball team played eight games at North Polk Monday, Sept. 15. According to coach Teresa Green, serving was a challenge for the girls, with the team as a whole serving at only 58 percent. Top servers for the day were Samantha Behne at 100 percent, Brittney Daniel at 92 percent, Gina Brown and 83 percent, and Kylie Angell at 75 percent.

Three squads played, with scores as follows: A, 8-21, 12-21, 11-21; B, 8-21, 6-21, 10-21; and C, 18-21, 20-22.

Eighth grade volleyball – The Greene County eighth grade volleyball team hosted Roland-Story Sept. 11 at the Greene County Community Center. Four squads played two sets each. Scores were A, 13-21 and 16-21; B, 19-21 and 4-21; C, 17-21 and 7-21; and D, 13-21, 18-21.

Servers at 80 percent or better were Naomi Long, Brittney Daniel, Gina Brown and Serenity Blair. The team served at 65 percent overall.

Middle school cross country– The Greene County middle school cross country team ran at the Greene County Invitational Sept. 11 in Jefferson.

Seventh grader Bailey Cunningham was the first Ram across the finish line in the girls race with a time of 14:59. That was 11th out of 94 runners. Other top finishers were seventh grader Tieryn Tucker, 16:03 (32nd place),  eighth grader Melanie Doran, 16:09 (33rd) and seventh grader Izzy Bravard, 16:21 (37th). Eleven girls ran for the Rams.

In the boys race, seventh grader Brian Hardaway led the Rams with a time of 14:10, which was 24th place out of 96 runners. Seventh grader Spencer Whipple finished 28th with a time of 14:16 and seventh grader Cael Fisher finished 55th with a time of 15:39. Six boys ran for the Rams.
